November 29, 1948 - March 20, 2021
On Saturday March 20, 2021, Shirley passed away peacefully at L.W.D.H with family by her side.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents Doug and Eileen Cameron, Perrault Falls ON., sister, Heather Miller (Don), Windsor ON., and granddaughter Kayla Reid, Sudbury, ON. Left to mourn her loss are her loving husband, Richard of 50 years, sisters Eileen Cameron, Lea Cameron (Lorne), loving daughters Tracy Reid (Daren), Dallas Hintz, and Deana Hintz, cherished grandsons Brandon Reid (Michelle), Curran McLeod, granddaughters, Callista McLeod, Ava MacNaughton, Marla MacNaughton, and great-grandson Kaden Reid, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, brother/sister in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Shirley (Bugsy) was born in Kenora ON, and lived on Hillside Crescent-war time houses. As a young woman, she worked for Reward Shoe store and Alkaye Grocery on 9th Street. She met Rick, married in 1970, and moved to Ignace to raise her family until 1993. Shirley loved little children and worked with the Children Aid Society for nine years. When Rick worked at Mattabi Mines, she worked as a cashier at Harleys Supermarket, Family Fare, and Ignace Airport. Mine closures sent Shirley and family back to Kenora in 1993, while Rick drove/flew back to Shebandowan and Musslewhite. While in Kenora, Shirl worked at Extra Foods in the meat department and retired in 2009. She loved playing T.V. Bingo, Rat Portage bingo, and traveling with her little sister Lea, on Sundays to Eagle River. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was known as “Aunty Shirley”, to many cousins, nephews, and Cameron’s.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name, to L.W.D.H. We desperately need an MRI for our new All Nations Hospital. Cremation has taken place and preparations for a burial will be made at a later date. No service. Special thanks to Cory Jinkerson at Brown Funeral Home in Kenora.
Shirley was a strong-willed, hard-working woman. She never once complained about anything except to say, “get me a blanket, my feet are cold”. Never once did she say, “Why me?” Goodbye my love. Until we meet again. You were my rock, my hero. ,
