Stella Young

1932 - 2012

With her family by her side, our beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend, Stella Young passed away on July 25, 2012 at Lake of the Woods District Hospital, at the age of 80 years.

Left heavy hearted are husband of 41 years Don, daughter Kari & husband Thomas Villa, cherished granddaughter Olivia, sister Bernice Literovich, brother John Bartkowiak & wife Margaret, sister in law Jean Rattai, nieces and nephews that she loved dearly and many friends.

Stella is predeceased by her mother Weronika and father Stanley.

Mom was born in Ostrowo, Gostyn, Poland on February 12, 1932. She landed at Pier 21 at Halifax harbour on December 24, 1949, at the age of 17. Stella proudly became a Canadian citizen on December 4, 1956.

Before moving to Kenora she lived in both Winnipeg and Dryden. She is well known for working at the Bus Depot before becoming a hairdresser in 1967. While hairdressing she forged many longstanding relationships.

She met a "Young" man that caught her eye and she knew he was the one. Mom eventually caught him and they were married on December 12, 1970. Four years later their only child Kari was born. Family was very important to her. The house was always full of children, either Kari's friends or nieces and nephews. Laughter was a permanent sound resonating throughout the home.

Mom loved the outdoors, especially being on the lake with friends. Many overnight adventures were had with the Carmichael families.

Mom also loved her car rides. The longest ones being trips to Arizona to see Kari, Thomas and her granddaughter Livi. Where she enjoyed shopping. Many evenings were spent with Don walking the dogs along the waterfront.

Mom will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all those who had the privilege and honour of knowing her.

The family wish to express our gratitude to Dr. Beveridge and the staff of Palliative Care for their kindness and compassion during Mom's brief stay.

A Celebration of Stella's life will be held at 11:00 am August 1, 2012 at the Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stella's memory to Lake of the Woods Hospital Palliative Care.
