April 10, 1932 – September 14, 2021
Tom passed away peacefully with his wife Norma by his side on September 14th, 2021, gone to rest with his parents (Bismark and Sophia) and his brothers and sisters (Harold, George, Harriet, Eleanor, Clarence, and Larry).
Tom, in his 89th year, was beloved husband and best friend of Norma. Loving father of Shirley Brookes (Dan) and Joyce Contant (Alain). Special grandpa to Carson, Isaac, Nate and Avery.
Tom lived in Kenora his whole life, working in the instrument/electrical department of the paper mill. He loved his community, especially the Central area where he grew up. In his youth he was caretaker of the central rink, where he spent many hours, playing and coaching hockey. Into his retirement years, Tom continued to keep a watchful eye on the park. On his daily walks, often enroute to Vets, where he would gather for coffee with friends, Tom could be seen doing what he could to keep the snow shoveled, grass cut and the parks clean. Within this community, he developed lifelong family-like bonds with his neighbours the Poiriers and the Cederwalls. Tom was fun-loving and found joy in the simplest things in life. He loved sports, cookies, crosswords, gardening at the "White house" and reading books. With his sense of humour, Tom made friends easily and could often be found talking to strangers and sharing a laugh.
In honour of Tom’s sweet tooth, please enjoy a cookie in memory of him!
A special thank you to the Cederwalls and Poiriers for keeping a watchful eye when Tom's health and mobility declined. Thank you to the Kenora Hospital caregiving staff for the wonderful care given to Tom this past week.
In lieu of flowers, you may consider donations to Canadian Alzheimer’s society. A private family memorial will take place at the Lake of the Woods Cemetery.
