Val is survived by her mother Susan VanDamme, soulmate, Colin Leydier, children Tara (Cory), Jason (Sue), Curt (Jada). Grandchildren Darrian, Ella, Rory and Orian. Sisters, Beverly Delichte and Melanie (Roman) Buryska. Special friends Craig, Daria, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Val will be remembered for her delicious cooking, her high-pitched laughter, her tardiness, her endless fishing questions, or perhaps her expressionless face locked in deep thought. She will also be remembered for her determination, persistence, kindness and her adventurousness. Born on a small farm near Pilot Mound, Manitoba to parents Susan and Laurant Delichte, Val moved to Winnipeg where she achieved a degree in Social Work from the University of Manitoba. Upon meeting the love of her life, Val and her three children relocated to Kenora, Ontario, where she was blessed be able to spend more time catching fish in her favourite lakes.
Val was always known to be up for an adventure! She often came unprepared, with three fishing rods and a gift for her Grandchild, but her children would always ensure they had an extra pair of mitts or an extra sandwich. That was Val, so excited to spend time with those that mattered most that she would often overlook minor details as being with her family was all she ever needed. We thought Val could not give us more than she did, until her grandchildren arrived. Val loved and adored her grandchildren and would always ask what they needed and would provide three times as much. Her love for her family was deep and we are going to miss her so much.
Her children, her sisters, her grandchildren, her nieces and nephews, her friends, are forever grateful for her endless pursuit to assist them in any way possible, by making their worries her worries, by being their greatest supporter and advocate, by taking the time to embrace in deep thought. They are forever grateful for her dedication, persistence, and devotion to do whatever was possible to assist in any way.
A Celebration of Val’s life will be held 11:00 am on July 8, 2020 at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, with a burial to follow at the Lake of the Woods Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
