With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our cherished husband, father and grandfather, Wilbert “Randy” Hill, on July 30th, 2024, at the age of 71. Randy passed away peacefully at his home in Laclu, surrounded by his loving family.
Randy was born in Kenora, Ontario, and his early years were spent in Camp Robertson before his family moved to Laclu when he was 10. Laclu became a special place for Randy, where he met the love of his life while playing cards with friends. He and his beloved wife, Linda, married in 1976. In 1984, they built their family home in Laclu. They raised their three children there and celebrated many joyous occasions, including two weddings. Randy found great joy in hosting family and friends at home or on the beach. He was fond of cruising on the pontoon with the family, often with his grandkids at the helm. He also enjoyed year round fishing for walleye with the family and having fish fries with the whole gang.
From a young age, he developed a deep love for animals, especially horses. At 14, he got his first horse, Lady, followed by Gus and Kal. Randy’s love for food led him to culinary school, and he delighted in sharing his culinary creations with family and friends. Professionally, he worked as a Millwright, a role in which he demonstrated great skill and dedication. His coworkers, fondly known as his “work family,” remained a significant part of his life over the years, with Christmas dinners being his favourite.
A true enthusiast of classic rock and roll music, Randy found joy in its timeless melodies. His favourite song was Spirit in the Sky. With family and friends, he loved to listen to anything classic rock. He also had a great affection for Harley motorcycles, acquiring his own bike in 2010, and enjoyed riding the loop through the Laclu area.
He was proud of his grandchildren and would watch them wherever they competed in sports from the rink, field or pool. He was known to answer the phone with “grandpa daycare,” always had treats in the house for them and loved spending time with his grandkids. He’d make huge batches of pancakes when they were coming over for the day. He was always up for a dilly bar, bowl of smarties or gummies with them any time. He passed down his love of cooking, teaching them how to make his famous Caesar salad dressing.
Randy was always available to lend a helping hand to anyone who asked, from flooring to bathroom renovations, deck building and roofing. He instilled a sense of altruism in his kids and grandkids.
Linda and Randy made the best of things in recent years and traveled to Puerto Vallarta with Brad and Linda. Mexico was his happy place; he loved the warmth, culture and cervezas. Randy found so much joy under the Mexican Sun, from walking the beach to hiking, exploring, and taking in the shopping and bartering.
Randy is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda; their children Kristin (Coy), Alyssa (Tim), and Jared (Jess); his grandchildren James, Kianna, Lucas, Connor, and Josephine; and many other family and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held at PUFF Fire Hall on August 8th, 2024, at 11:00 am. All family and friends are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to PUFF Fire Hall (in honor of Randy Hill: [email protected]), where Randy served on the Board of Directors.
We would like to thank the team in the Chemo department, Meg Scully and Mike Limerick, for all their assistance. Thank you so much to everyone who has provided amazing meals and other support over the last few weeks. We appreciate your support and condolences during this difficult time.
Hasta Luego Senor.
