Bill Marchand (William)
May 4, 1960 - July 31, 2017
It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the sudden peaceful passing of our Beloved Husband, Father, Pepere, Uncle and friend Bill (William) Marchand, age 57, on July 31st, 2017. Bill was a resident of Kenora, ON, and was working in Nackawic, New Brunswick. He will be forever cherished and greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his loving wife of 35 years Carol, sons Jordan (Delaney), Adrian (Jonie), his two grandsons Braeden and Maverick. He leaves to mourn his Father-In-Law Armand Marion, Brother in-Law Denis Marion, Sister in-law and Brother in-Law Mona and Jim Boss along with several nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by both his parents Florent Marchand (1996), Jeannine Marchand, (2004) and most recently his Sister Ginette Marchand (2016). Also predeceased by his Mother in-Law Lorraine Marion (1994).
Bill was born in Elliott Lake, Ontario. His father's career moved the family to many mining communities in Bill's younger years, finally moving to Kenora when Bill was 15, When his parents decided to move to Pickle Lake the following year, Bill chose to remain in Kenora, where he attended Beaver Brae Secondary High School and worked part time. He met Carol in 1979 and it was love at first sight. He went to Regina, SK to work and live with his sister and close friend, however he was only gone for 2 months before he returned back to Kenora. He was then hired with Boise Cascade on July 19th, 1979. On May 1st, 1982 Bill married his sweetheart and often called her Princess. In June 1985, he obtained his Grade 12 diploma through the Adult Learning Centre. He continued working at the paper mill moving from one department to another, until he eventually found his calling in the Environmental Department. He began taking college courses in 1993, through distance education at Sault College. As he progressed in his college courses, he also raised two sons, worked full time shift work and renovated two homes. In 2000 he proudly graduated as an Environmental Engineering Technician with a 3.8 GPA. In 2005, the mill shutdown and he worked contracts in town, with both DST and KGS Environmental Groups. In July 2007 he went to work for Aditya Birla AV Group, in Nackawic, New Brunswick as the Environmental Coordinator where he just finished his 9th year. He was looking forward to retiring in 2018. While working in the Maritimes, he enjoyed taking Carol to the many sites and toured Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Newfoundland and Quebec would have been the next to see.
Bill was a very quiet, gentle, philosophical, hard-working and patient man. He had a beautiful smile and was a good joke teller. Being around family and friends was also important to him. He loved to show off his cooking skills, making his homemade pizzas, spaghetti sauces, and was a master at meat and fruit pies. He enjoyed taking the family on road trips, camping, swimming, fishing, and golfing. He also enjoyed passing his time by reading and solving crossword and sudoku puzzles. He would spend hours just sitting on the deck gazing at the water during the day, and listening to the loons at night. He also loved to watch the Northern Lights when they were visible. He was always there for advice taking the time to help his sons, especially with their math homework, which he was proficient in. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was so happy to welcome his second grandson while home for vacation in mid July.
