

Betty E. Kind, 84, of Kimball, died at the Kimball County Manor on Tuesday, October 9, 2012. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kimball with Pastor Kenneth Mars officiating. Inurnment will be held at the Kimball Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 15, 2012. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Research. The services have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.
Betty Ernestine Kind was born in Kimball on January 10, 1928, the daughter of Ernest and Zula (Smith) Houghtaling. Her parents had her baptized on July 7, 1929. She attended school in Dix and graduated from the Dix High School in 1946. She moved to Omaha and took tech training in electronics. She met Elden Kind and they were married in Omaha on March 22, 1947. The family moved to Chappell while Elden worked for the RR. She was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sidney on January 24, 1954. They moved to Sidney and lived there a number of years before moving to Kimball in 1964. Betty worked as a homemaker taking care of her family. She also helped her mother run the family store after her father died until it was sold to the Western Nebraska Observer. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Daughters of the Civil War, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Kimball Senior Center. She was active in doing research for genealogy. Betty enjoyed collecting old coins and pens. She had donated many items to the Plains Historical Society.
Survivors include her sons Allen (Shirley) Kind of Watertown, WI, and Gene Kind of Bruch, CO; 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Her parents, husband, son Rodney, brother Charles and great grandchild Chaze Winegeart preceded her in death.
