

Lawrence H.C. Weigel, 95, of Kimball, died at his home in Kimball on Wednesday, March 28, 2012. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 2, 2012 at the First English Lutheran Church in Kimball with Pastor Amanda Esping officiating. Inurnment will be held at Grand Island City Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. on April 3, 2012. Friends may call at the Vista Villa on Sunday from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. to sign the register and leave condolences for the family. Memorials have been established to either the First English Lutheran Church or Vista Villa. The services for Lawrence have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.
Lawrence Herman Christian Weigel was born in Platteville, Wisconsin on January 14, 1917, the son of Edward and Anna (Stender) Weigel. He was raised and attended school in Platteville and graduated in 1935. He attended Pioneer State Teachers College in Platteville and received his teachers degree in education. Lawrence married Alice L. Leiser on October 5, 1942 at Dubuque, Iowa. He enlisted in the US Army on November 25, 1940 and served his country during WWII. He was honorably discharged on February 13, 1946. He worked at Bull Canyon Ranch for more than 3 years as a potato foreman. He moved his family to Bushnell in November of 1949 when he went to work for S.P. Dowd doing electrical work. They moved to Kimball in August of 1950 when their new home was finished at 11 Rodman Court. While working for Dowd he changed profession from electrician to carpentry. He worked for Dowd until April of 1953 when he began his own carpentry business. Lawrence did carpentry work for many families and business throughout Kimball and the surrounding area. He would often take one or two of his children to help him at work, a place where they learned a trade and the value of helping others. Lawrence retired from the US Army Reserve in 1960 as a Captain. His wife Alice preceded him in death on January 29, 1993. He married to Charlotte (Wittrock) Isaacs in Dix Nebraska on November 7, 1998. He completely retired in 2004. He was always willing to help others. He was a member of the First English Lutheran Church, Kimball VFW, Lions Club, the Jaycees and a member of the University of Wisconsin Platteville Alumni Association. He served on the Kimball Cemetery Board for 20 years. He volunteered to march in the color guard of the Kimball VFW during the Farmer’s Day Parade and served in the color guard during the funeral services of many fallen veterans.
Survivors include his wife Charlotte, Kimball, NE; sons Richard (Pat) Weigel, Markleeville, CA., Larry (Ann) Weigel II, Sidney, NE; daughters Lana (Terry) Wenzel, Spearfish, SD., Dorothy (Farren) Johnson, Ft. Bridger, WY., and Maribeth (John) Muske, Hill City, SD; step-sons Lyle (Patty) Isaacs, Kearney, NE and Larry (Aimee) Isaacs, Gilbert, AZ; sister Bernice Tischhauser, Dubuque, IA; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. His parents, first wife Alice (Leiser), brother Calvin and 1 grandson and 1 great grandson preceded him in death.
