Roy William Ingram

Roy W. Ingram, 75, of Kimball, NE passed away in Cheyenne, WY on October 27, 2023. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 1st from 3 pm - 7 pm at Cantrell Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM on Thursday, November 2nd. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM following the Rosary at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Kimball, NE with Father Gerald Harr officiating. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Stratton, Colorado on November 3rd at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Kimball Concert Association in Roy’s name. Friends may also visit www.cantrellfh.com to leave condolences and stories for the family. The services for Roy have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.

Roy was born to Thaine (T.L.) and Winifred Ingram on March 8, 1948 in Oberlin, Kansas. He graduated from Jennings High School with the Class of 1966 in Jennings, KS where he was an All Northwestern Kansas defensive lineman in football, where he played for Coach Milt Tenopir (future Nebraska OL coach) and furthered his education at Fort Hays State University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in History Education. Roy was a lifelong learner obtaining his Master’s Degree from University of Nebraska-Lincoln in School Administration and later on, Specialist Degree from University of Nebraska-Kearney. Upon graduating from FHSU, he started his career in education spanning 37 years, teaching History and Spanish and later serving as Activities Director, Principal and Superintendent. In his earlier years, he coached Football and Wrestling. The highlight for him was being on the coaching staff for the 1974 Stratton High School State Wrestling Championship team where they had locked up the team race by the end of the first day. Roy worked hard to deliver a high quality education to the students of the districts that he served, traveled many miles all across Nebraska, Colorado, and Kansas supporting the students in their activities and enjoyed seeing them grow in their respective careers after they graduated.

Roy was a history buff, as you could often find him reading books about historical events, watching The History Channel, or baseball and telling stories. Before his health declined, he spent ample time gardening, doing yard work, enjoying concerts and traveling to museums. Roy was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan dating back to the 1970s, his primary interest was Nebraska Football and Nebraska Baseball. One of his dying wishes was that Nebraska Football get back to six wins this year and qualify for a bowl. So, the task is on you, Coach Rhule, to deliver that. We’ve got the faith that you’ll get it done.

Roy is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jane, and three children: Christopher, Karl (Tiffany), and Gabe (Tori). The pride and joy of his life, his five grandchildren: Kevin & Adeline Ingram and Mackenzie, Baylor, & Carter Ingram. Brother, Ted (Paula) Ingram and Sister, Terry Ingram. He was also survived by brothers-in-law: Kent (Daneen) Jostes, Kevin Jostes, Kurt (Dayla) Jostes, and Keith Jostes, and many nieces and nephews.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, T.L. & Winifred Ingram and in-laws, Eugene & Rosemary Jostes and infant sister Dorothy Ingram.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jennifer (Gentry) Griebel, Brooke Borgman, and the LinCare staff for their extraordinary care they gave Roy throughout the past several years.
