Bernice M. Crawford, 89, known to her family and friends as “Bea,” entered the gates to her Heavenly home on Monday, March 27, 2023. Born November 7, 1933, she was an extraordinary lady who was passionate about her faith and enjoyed exercising her gift of service. She was a fanatical shopper and loved a good thrift store or yard sale. Odds are there wasn’t a shade of lipstick or piece of jewelry she didn’t own. After graduating from Sullivan High School, she worked at Kress in Kingsport, 1st National Bank, sold Avon and served as a realtor for many years. Bea was a faithful member of the Colonial Heights Baptist church and treasured the friendships she made with the ladies in her Sunday school class. She also served through organizations such as Samaritan’s Purse by filling hundreds of shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, Shriners, Southern Baptist’s Lottie Moon mission and Meals on Wheels. Bea had a heart for helping those less fortunate. She blessed her family by organizing or hosting family holiday meals, baby showers and bridal showers. Most importantly, she was a devoted caregiver for her husband, mother, and neighbor. She was loved dearly and will be missed by those who had the privilege of knowing her. If Bea could give you one piece of advice, it would be to love BIG, laugh often and never take for granted how blessed we are.
Bea was preceded in death by her husband of many years, Eugene “Gene” Crawford; her parents Rev. Jarvis and Mrs. Audrey Morelock; brother Bob Morelock; special nephew Gary Morelock, and many brothers-sisters-in law, nephews, and nieces. She is survived by sister Carolyn Light (Bob), sisters-in-law, whom she considered much like her sisters, Edna Crawford, Lucy Kincheloe, and Barbara Crawford, very special cousin Jean Conkin, many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and even great-great nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Danna Pearce for “loving her big” for the last five years, as well as, Brittany Moore, Tara Kerr, Dinah Hicks, Aubrey Shearer and the staff at Brookdale Rock Springs.
The Crawford family will honor Bea’s life with a Graveside Service on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 2:00 pm. The service will be held in the Chapel of the Mausoleum II in East Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor Bill Willis and Mike Malone officiating.
In lieu of flowers, Bea would want donations to be made to the charity or cause of your choice because that was her passion.
