

Betty Jean Welch Staten, 77, widow of Cecil “Gene” Staten husband of fifty years, of Kingsport passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2014, in the Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness. Mrs. Staten was born on May 29, 1937 in Wise County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Beecher James Welch, Sr. and Beulah Tate Welch. She worked as the Collections Manager at Carter’s Chapel Funeral Home for twenty-three years. She was a former member of Women of the Moose where she enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with friends. In later years, she enjoyed crafting, traveling with her sister and being with her children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Beecher Welch, Jr.; her sister, Dana Nichols; her very special grandson, Taylor Hutsell; and niece, Debbie Nichols.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Anita Staten, of Kingsport, TN; her daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Johnny Hutsell, of Kingsport, TN; two granddaughters, Halee Hutsell and Victoria Hutsell, of Kingsport, TN; a special nephew, Dr. Steven Nichols, of Amherst, VA; a special friend and neighbor, Jeff Martin; a very special companion, her dog Princess; and several other nieces and nephews..
The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 18, 2014 from 12:00pm until 2:00pm at the East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral Services for Mrs. Betty Jean Welch Staten will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 2:00pm in the East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor JW Depew officiating. A private burial will take place in the Garden of Everlasting Life III at East Lawn Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be Elmer Tate, Richard Tate, Mike Tate, Bob Hauk and Wes Carter.
