Bonnie Bertha (Bowery) Lane

After a brief illness, Bonnie Bertha (Bowery) Lane was lifted up peacefully to join God and his angels on February 2, 2013 at Remington House Assisted Living in Kingsport, TN. She was born in Kingsport on July 12, 1920, the daughter of Verlin Edgar and Vergie Mary Ann (Little) Bowery. She was a homemaker and a member of Sullivan Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for several years. The love of her life was her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was very creative with her hands and was an excellent seamstress. She made clothing for the family, many quilts and knitted Christmas tree skirts, which her family members treasure today. For many years, she worked with the Ladies Auxiliary at Holston Valley Community Hospital. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lane was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years Maldon Asbury Lane, Jr. and her brothers , Haskell, Claude, Verlin Edgar(V.E.) Bowery, Jr. Bonnie is survived by her son, Donald Wayne Lane and wife Ingrid of Kingsport, her two daughters, Linda L. Thiele Williams and husband Jim of Knoxville, and Patsy Lane Potter and husband Bill of Kingsport, 9 grandchildren – Stephen Marcus Lane of Kingsport, Charles Douglas Lane (Julie) of Rome, GA, Melissa Blalock (Ben), Michael D. Richardson(Lauren), and Marcus Thiele, all of Knoxville, Matt Richardson (Amy) of Atlanta, GA, Mayne Thiele (Elisa) of Nashville, Amy Potter Steisslinger (Greg) of Morristown, and Andy Lane Potter (Lindsey ) of Austin Texas, 12 great grandchildren, Noah and David Lane, Quillen and Nathaniel Blalock, Grant, Anna and John Richardson, Max and Stu Richardson, Eli and Ty Steisslinger, and Katherine June Potter, sister and brother -in- law Mary and Dale Carter, sisters -in- law, Rosemary Bowery, Evelyn Lane New, and Sarah Lane, several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lane loved her family so much and spent her life caring for them. Because education was so important to her, she was very active in PTA, band and other school activities of her children. She was so proud that all 3 of her children and all 9 of her grandchildren graduated from the University of Tennessee. On her 90th birthday, she received a congratulatory letter from UT Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek. One of her happiest times was a visit to her 90th birthday party by Mayor Dennis Phillips, surprising her with a key to the city. Anyone who visited her would be asked “Have you seen my key to the city”? The family would like to extend a special thanks and appreciation to the staff of Remington House that she called her home, Amedisys hospice, Comfort Keepers, Emergency Room and 5th Floor Staff at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center and Dr. Warren Jones and Dr. Steven Butler. Receiving of friends will be Monday, February 4, 2013 from 11:00- 1:00 at East Lawn Funeral Home with a graveside service following in East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
