

Darrell W. Perry, age 83 of Blountville, entered the gates of Heaven during the late evening hours of Sunday, April 17, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Darrell was born to the late Mitchell Perry and the late Rose Jones Perry on July 1, 1932 in Carter County, TN. One evening Darrell was playing the guitar for the band, “The Blevins Bros.” at a local barn dance and he met the sweetheart of his life. And on March 16, 1955 Darrell married his most treasured friend, Ms. Leigh Jean Roller and after 61 wonderful years together, she survives. Darrell proudly served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1954 where he served as a military police officer in Austria. After serving in the United States Army, Darrell worked at his barber shop “Central Barber Shop” on Market St. in Kingsport for over 60 years. Darrell enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was one of the Atlanta Braves’ most loyal fans and he enjoyed music. He enjoyed his time that he spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; it was these times that were of the utmost importance to him. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jack Perry; and one sister, Reva Bare. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Leigh Jean Roller Perry; two sons, Keith Perry and James Perry; one daughter, Sharon Francis Little and husband Doug; two brothers, Lawrence Perry and wife Selma, and Conley Perry; two sisters, Mildred Brittingham, and Mable Estep and husband Ron; three grandchildren, Ashley Perry Grindstaff and husband Jonathan, Hilary Perry, and Laurel Penley; and two great-grandchildren, “his little buddy” Andrew Grindstaff, and Emery Grindstaff. The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to the nurses and staff at Greystone Healthcare in Blountville, TN for all that they have done in taking care of Darrell. Darrell’s family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with his life celebration service to follow at 7:00 pm. There will be a Military Honor’s entombment service for Darrell on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 11:00 am. at East Lawn Memorial Park in the Chapel of Memories. Military honors will be provided by Rolling Thunder, Inc. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to Greystone Healthcare, 181 Dunlap Rd.
