Doris was born in Atlanta, GA and was a longtime resident of
Kingsport. During World War II she volunteered for the USO. Doris
was a member of the Greater Kingsport Republican Women and Colonial
Heights Baptist Church. Her last twenty three years were devoted to
raising her grandson, Stephen.
She was the daughter of Gladys Elzada Medlock Payne and Edgar Payne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C.M. “Cal” Sebastian; son,
Steve Sebastian; and daughter, Vivian Sebastian. Survivors include
her daughter, Gladys Lynn Sebastian and husband George Klemp of
Westport, CT; grandson, Stephen Craig Sebastian, II of Reformed
Theological Seminary, Jackson, Mississippi; uncle and childhood best
friend, Thomas Medlock of Atlanta, GA; and one brother, Ray Payne of
Beaver Damn, VA.
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 17th from Noon
until 2:00 p.m. at Colonial Heights Baptist Church. A celebration of
life service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church, officiated by Dr.
Greg Burton and Rev. Curtis DuBose. Burial will follow immediately at
East Lawn Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers include Mark Brockwell,
Tom Medlock, Steve Helton, Ruth Martin, Lt. Governor Ron and Sindy
Ramsey, Mary Lee Davis, Sally Smith, Ruth Stanley, Mary Wood Smoot,
Congressman Phil and Pam Roe, John Martin, III, Vicki Shell, U.S.
Magistrate Judge Ed and Cyndi Bryant and Linda Buckles. Stephen
especially appreciates the care and support over the past year for
himself and his grandmother of Mark Brockwell, Ruth Martin, and our
church families at Colonial Heights Baptist Church and Mitchell Road
Presbyterian Church in Greenville, SC. Scholarship donations to
Reformed Theological Seminary, Jackson, MS would be appreciated in
