

Fred T. McMurray, 79, of Kingsport, departed this life on Friday, February 13, 2015 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center on Wilcox Hall after a short and sudden illness. Mr. McMurray served in the United States Army having received an Honorable Discharge. He loved Bluegrass music and was regular at the Carter Fold. He worked at Holston Defense, Ball Brothers Furniture Company and retired from Helig-Meyers Furniture. He made a lot of friends through his work and especially at Carter Fold, and was thrilled to become a great-grandpa. He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Laura McMurray; wife, Ruth McMurray; a sister, Estelle Browder; and brothers, W.H. McMurray and J.D. McMurray. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Burchell and her husband, Gene; granddaughter, Amber Cole and her husband, Jason; great-grandson, William Cole; sister, Cleo Hensley; brother, Pat McMurray; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the nurses and PCT’s on CICU Stepdown and the 3rd Floor, Wilcox Hall at Holston Valley Medical Center for the wonderful care and compassion they had shown. The family would also like to thank Dr. Johnny White for his care and compassion and a special thank you to his sister, Cleo for all the love, care and support during all the times and especially now. Thank you to all that visited him or called to check on him and the prayers that went out for him and our family. He was “one of a kind” and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday evening, February 18, 2015 at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 19, 2015 in the Garden of Peace I of East Lawn Memorial Park. Military honors will be rendered by American Legion Post 3 of Kingsport and American Legion Post 265 of Gate City,VA.
