Bert was born to Noah and Rosa Tiller in Birchleaf, VA on Feb 27th, 1924. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and later met and married Ruth Crowe in 1947. Together, they resided in Kingsport, TN for over 50 years. Most recently he resided at Mayfair Manor in Portsmouth.
A born salesman, Bert was proud of his many sales records and the many trips and awards that he earned over the years. He retired as a sales manager for Parks-Belk in Kingsport. He was most proud, however, of his short time as an Army medic during WWII and of his family’s contributions to the war effort.
Bert was an active member of the First Broad Street United Methodist Church in Kingsport and sang in The Sounds of Joy Choir. Of late, he enjoyed attending special events at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Olde Towne Portsmouth.
He is survived by his best friend and loving daughter, Rebecca Tiller Larys and his son-in-law Dr. Bob Larys of Portsmouth; by his brother Curtis and his sister-in-law Mae Crowe both of whom reside in Kingsport. Bert also leaves behind a bevy of dear friends and caregivers, both in Tennessee and Virginia, but especially in Olde Towne Portsmouth where he touched all who knew him with his kind, cheerful nature and his contagiously positive outlook on life. Please visit www.eastlawnkingsport.com to leave a condolence for the family. Graveside services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park, a memorial service was held at Trinity Episcopal on Monday.
