

Guilford “Gil” Hodges, age 75, went to be with the Lord on June 17, 2013 at Johnson City Medical Center. Born in Detroit, Michigan to the late Orris and Grace Hodges, he was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Hodges, two brothers, David Hodges and Sonny Hodges. Gil was retired and had served as a former Mayor/County Executive for Sullivan County. He was a member of Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church in Bluff City. Gil was a Shriner and a Mason and had served in National Guard. Survivors include three sons, Ricky Hodges of Bluff City, Ernie Hodges of Piney Flats, Andy Hodges and his wife, April of Piney Flats; one daughter, Angela Foster and husband, Donnie of Bluff City; eight grandchildren, Victoria Hayes and husband, Ray of Kingsport, Rica Olegario and fiancé’, Myles Key of Bristol, TN, Chelsey Hodges of Bluff City, Austin Hodges of Bluff City, Joshua Hodges, Matthew Hodges, Beth Hodges, Parker Grace Hodges all of Piney Flats, six great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Hodges and wife, Jean of Bluff City; one sister, Susan Reece and husband, Frank of Bluff City; two step-daughters, Sherry Brewer and Terry Anderson and husband, Gary all of Greensboro, NC.; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Private family entombment services will be held on Thursday at East Lawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church, 1727 Chinquapin Grove Rd.
