Helen Geraldine “Jerry” Weaver was taken into the presence of Jesus on Friday (August 12, 2016) at the age of 78, after a brief battle with liver cancer. Jerry was born in Bristol, VA on December 22, 1937 to the late Ralph and Madeline Moore. Jerry gave her life to Jesus as a teenager at First Assembly of God in Bristol in 1954. Jerry graduated from Wallace High School in 1955. She married the love of her life, Max, on December 21, 1957. Jerry always said all she ever wanted to do was to be a good wife and mother; she succeeded with excellence! Together, they raised two children at Cassidy United Methodist Church. Jerry enjoyed singing in the church choir and with her family about the love of Jesus. When Max was called to preach, Jerry served by his side at Church Hill Church of the Nazarene and Kingsport Methodist Church. Over the years, Jerry taught many children as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. Jerry was an active member of Kingsport United Methodist Church and the Sunnyside Baptist Keenagers until traveling to heaven. Jerry was blessed with the ability to make crafts and to cook, especially bread, which she shared freely with others. She was faithful to honor her parents and in-laws by providing care to them in their final years, as well as Max through his battle with ALS. In addition to her parents, Jerry was preceded in death by her loving husband, Max Weaver; and in-laws, Howard & Pearl Weaver. Those who are left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Vickie Barnes & husband Carl of Maryville; son, Tod Weaver & wife Dottie of Kingsport; grandson, Phillip Dotson & wife Emily; great-granddaughter, Megan; brother, Ralph Moore & wife Kitty; and a host of family and friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday (August 13, 2016) from 4 to 6 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Dr. Jim Manis and Pastor Steve Alley officiating. Committal services will be held Sunday (August 14, 2016) at 2:00 p.m. at Weaver Family Cemetery (Ashe County, NC). Those wishing to attend the committal service are asked to meet at East Lawn Funeral Home by 11:30 a.m. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Weaver Family Cemetery (c/o Vickie Weaver Barnes or Tod Weaver).
