

Joe Candler Wampler, age 92, of Kingsport, TN, went to be with the Lord on August 16, 2017 at Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, TN. He was born in Nickelsville, VA on September 17, 1924. He went to school in Nickelsville and married his high school sweetheart, Maxie Roberts, on June 30, 1945. He retired from AFG in 1990. He was a member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church in Gray, TN. He was a kind and gentle soul who was known for his wonderful smiles and hugs and his skills as an amazing handyman.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Singleton and Goldie (Gibson) Wampler; his siblings: Imogene Mays, Aubrey Wampler, Faye Cox, Elma Ruth Sluss, Jay Wampler and Doris Addington.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Maxie Wampler; children: Karen (Roland) Gabbert, David (Jeanie) Wampler, Linda Jo (Johnny) Roberts, Danny (Suzie) Wampler, and unofficially adopted George (Shirley) Weber; 18 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, August 19, 2017 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church, 197 Suncrest Street, Gray,TN 37615, with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 1:00 P.M. with Dr. Jody Jenkins and Dr. Gary Seaman officiating. Joe will be laid to rest at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 19, 2017 in the Garden of Faith at East Lawn Memorial Park, 4997 Memorial Blvd., Kingsport, TN 37664, with his grandsons serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Cedar View Christian School, PO Box 143, Kingsport, TN 37662 or Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church, 197 Suncrest Street Gray, TN 37615.
