

Margie Louise Slaughter, 78, of Bristol, TN, passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at her home in Bristol, TN. Born on February 19, 1937 in Andover, VA, she was the daughter of the late Sherman Witt and Margaret Worley Witt. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all her heart and faithfully served Him in her church. She accepted Christ as her Savior nine years ago and her life was forever changed. She had a great sacrificial love for her family. She especially loved being involved in the prayer team and visitation ministry in her church. “Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference.” Jude 21-22. In addition to her parents, Sherman Witt and Margaret Worley Witt, she was preceded in death by her husband, F. Joe Slaughter; infant son, Brian Slaughter; and sister, Shirley Davidson. She is survived by her daughters, Sherri Williams and her husband, Pastor Dewey W. Williams of Bristol, VA, and Sonya Slaughter Helm and her husband, Dave Ashford, Jr. of Bristol, TN; grandchildren, Grace Baugh and her husband, Greg of Winston-Salem, NC, Hope Griffis and her husband, Rev. Joseph Griffis of Mountain City, TN, Peyton Helm of Bristol, TN, Angel Ashford of Bristol, TN, and Erika Ashford of Bristol, TN; great-grandchildren, Anna Baugh, Abigail Baugh, Lily Baugh, Faith Griffis, Harmony Griffis, Judson Griffis, Silas Griffis, Marshall Griffis, Mercy Griffis and Hudson Griffis; sisters, Sondra Fisher and her husband, Danny, Mary Jane Renfro, Sally Hamilton and her husband, Johnny, Margaret Lewis, all of Big Stone Gap, VA, and Diana Cumbow and her husband, Jim of Bristol, TN; several nieces and nephews; her special sister-in-law, Jerry Thomas and her husband, Dolan of Blountville, TN; all her special friends at Belle Meadows Baptist Church, especially Shirley St. Clair who was her visitation partner; and her special shut-in friends that she and Shirley faithfully ministered to. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday evening, September 23, 2015 at Belle Meadows Baptist Church. Funeral Services will follow at 7:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Dewey Williams, Bro. Tim Clark, Bro. Charlie Baker and Pastor Joseph Griffis officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2015 in the Garden of David of East Lawn Memorial Park in Kingsport. Honoring Mrs. Slaughter as pallbearers are Dave Ashford, Jr., Greg Baugh, Cecil Brown, John Salyer, Tim Clark and Peyton Helm.
