

Maxie Godsey, 102, of Kingsport, Tennessee passed away on March 24, 2012 at her home with family and caregivers by her side. She was born in Scott County, Virginia on May 8, 1909. She had been in declining health for several years. She was an amazing woman and a wonderful Christian Mother and Grandmother. Maxie was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Kingsport for over 60 years. She was the daughter of the late Wes and Betty Patrick and the last surviving member from a family of three brothers and four sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Godsey, after 62 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death was her son Sgt. Virgil Godsey and daughter Pauline Estepp. She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Ketron of Kingsport, TN. and son, Darrell Godsey and wife Margaret of Gray, TN. She is also survived by six grandchildren;nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family wants to express our heartfelt gratitude to Caregivers, Jewel Amos, Tina Amos, and Lisa Amos, who provided wonderful care to our mother and grandmothers and became like members of our family. Also, we deeply appreciate the staff of Wellmont Hospice especially Becky Sutherland, RN and Josie Jackson, Aide who showed so much compassion for our mother.
Visitation will be held at East Lawn Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. today, Monday, March 26, 2012, with funeral services to be conducted by Rev. Joe Byrd at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Pallbearers will be Grandson,Gary Godsey, Great-Grandsons Josh and Justin Anderson, and friends Bill Wright, Mike Kilgore and Jon Michael Kilgore. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Maxie Godsey are requested to be sent to Love Meals, c/o Vermont United Methodist Church, Bloomingdale Pike, Kingsport, Tennessee 37660.
