Maxie Olene Wampler, age 99, of Kingsport, TN, went to be with the Lord on April 8, 2026, at her home in Greer, SC, surrounded by her loved ones—just 24 days shy of her 100th birthday. She was born on May 2, 1926, in Nickelsville, VA, where she attended school and later married her high school sweetheart, Joe Wampler, on June 30, 1945. She was a devoted member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church in Gray, TN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; her siblings: Edith Blackwell, Billy Roberts, and Joyce Jackson.
She is survived by her brother Dennis (Lindell), her 4 children: Karen (Roland) Gabbert, David (Jeanie) Wampler, Linda Jo (Johnny) Roberts, Danny (Suzie) Wampler, and unofficially adopted George (Shirley) Weber; 18 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great- grandchildren; a special cousin, Nancy Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A graveside service will be held Monday, April 13, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. in the Garden of Faith at East Lawn Memorial Park, 4997 Memorial Blvd., Kingsport, TN 37664, with grandchildren and great-grandchildren serving as pallbearers.
A Celebration of Life Service to celebrate her 100th birthday will be held on May 2, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church, 197 Suncrest Street, Gray, TN 37615. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Cedar View Christian School, PO Box 143, Kingsport, TN 37662 or Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church, 197 Suncrest Street, Gray, TN 37615.
All arrangements are entrusted to East Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park.
