Paul E. King, 98, finished his earthly journey and departed to heaven to receive his reward on Monday September 21, 2020. He was born on September 28, 1921 in Glamorgan, Virginia to Charles H. King and Bessie Lampkins King. Paul grew up in Kingsport. He served his country during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was part of the 341st, 22nd Bomb Squadron, 14th Air Force China, Burma, India, 27th Troop Carrier Squadron, which was part of the Flying Tigers. Paul achieved the rank of Technical Sargent by the end of the war.
He is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Bessie King, his wife of many years Edith Waters King, daughter Deborah King Shaw, sister and brother-in-law George and Edith King McQuire, brother and sister-in- law Roy and Jean Queen King, brother Carl King, sister and brother-in-law Harry and Brenda Barnes, brothers-in - law Oscar Franklin and Roy Pritchett and special friend Evelyn Booher.
Paul is survived by his daughter Sharon King of Greeneville, Tennessee, his son Phil King and wife Dodie LeFever of Salisbury, North Carolina and daughter Joan Marshall of Greeneville, Tennessee, six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren, a sister Geraldine Franklin of Ocala, Florida, a sister Wilma Pritchett of Cleveland, Tennessee, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 24, 2020 from 1:00 to 2:00pm at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 2:00pm with Bishop Dennis McGuire and Reverend Clarence Gammill officiating.
Paul will be laid to rest following the funeral at East Lawn Memorial Park in the Christus Garden. The American Legion Post 3/265 and the Virginia National Guard will convey military Honors.
Family will serve as pallbearers.
