Roy Franklin Vaughn, Sr. age 92, entered into rest April 8, 2013 at his residence. Born in Wise County, VA to the late James Patrick and Julia Messer Vaughan, he had lived in Kingsport for 63 years. He was a retired auto mechanic, and a longtime member of Stateline Baptist Church. Roy served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Vaughn, daughter, Charlotte Vaughn and son, Larry Wayne Vaughn. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Mullins Vaughn of Kingsport; two sons, Dwight Denver Vaughn and wife Karen Bond Vaughn of Pilot, VA, Roy Franklin Vaughn, Jr. and wife Joan Adkins Vaughn of Maryville, TN; daughter, Lavonda Diane Sullivan of Saint Petersburg, FL; eleven grandchildren, Tara Leann Wojciechowski,Terry Adam Matherly, Verle Spencer Vaughn, Kimberly Dawn Early, Mark Anthony Vaughn, Danny Vaughn, Anthony Vaughn, Angela Phillips, Andrea Borowski, Nicole Vaughn, Gunnar Vaughn; fifteen great-grandchildren, Samantha Reed, Sophia Wojciechowski,Elijah Matherly, Kalin Matherly,Issac Vaughn, Melody Vaughn, Megan Vaughn, Mary Beth Vaughn, Molly Vaughn, Kyle Early, Joshua Early, Elizabeth Early, Kayden Vaughn, Asia Vaughn, Sidney Vaughn; one daughter-in-law, Linda Winegar Vaughn, four step-children, Rev. Gene Mullins and wife Brenda of Maryville, Carolyn Lawson and husband Larry of Fall Branch, Barbara Tilson and husband Jerry of Baileyton, Rosa Light and husband Doug of Kingsport; eleven step-grandchildren, Brian Mullins, Carrie Faust, Barry Lawson, Lori Bellamy, Mark Mullins, Amy Shelton, Allison Weems, Jeremy Tilson, Kim Pratt, Jessica Queen and Sarah Light; sixteen step-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, 11:00 a.m. at the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Doug Light, Spencer Vaughn, Mark Vaughn, B.J. Wojciechowski, Gunnar Vaughn, Anthony Vaughn, Adam Matherly and Jerry Tilson. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
