Vergeline Elizabeth "Dud" Holtzclaw

Vergeline Elizabeth “Dud” Holtzclaw, 89, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, in the Holston Valley Medical Center. Mrs. Holtzclaw was born on March 10, 1925 in Waynesville, North Carolina the daughter of the late Albert Sutton and Maude Phillips Sutton. She was a loving housewife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Holtzclaw was a lifelong member of Cedar View Independent Methodist Church, where she taught ladies Sunday school and sang in the choir. Mrs. Holtzclaw was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Doyle Holtzclaw; one daughter, Gloria Collins and one sister, Ivalee Mynheir.

Survivors include one daughter, Louana “Lou” Thornburg, of Kingsport, TN; one son, Randy Holtzclaw and wife Doris, of Knoxville, TN; one son-in-law, Wayne Collins, of Kingsport, TN; seven grandchildren, Laura Kerney, of Kingsport, TN, Jennifer Vaughn, of Zebulon, NC, Melissa Phillips and husband Mark, of Kingsport, TN, Kevin Collins and wife Cindy, of Kingsport, TN, Janet Henderson, of Smyrna, TN, Alec Holtzclaw, of Maryville, TN, and Jens Holtzclaw, of Maryville, TN; eight great grandchildren, Jessica Kerney, Christopher Phillips, Scott Kerney, Kristin Henderson, Lacy Odom, Josh Vaughn, Sara Henderson, and Tiffany Vaughn; six great-great grandchildren; and two nieces, Kim DeWeese and Linda DeWeese.

The family will receive friends Thursday, September 4, 2014 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Cedar View Independent Methodist Church, 1421 Gibson Mill Road, Kingsport, TN. Funeral Services for Mrs. Vergeline Elizabeth “Dud” Holtzclaw will be held Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 7:00pm at Cedar View Independent Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Fields officiating. Graveside Services will be held Friday, September 5, 2014 at 11:00am in the Garden of Apostles at East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Cedar View Christian School, 1900 Flanders Street, Kingsport, TN. 37665. The family would like to say a special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Wellmont Holston Valley, Bristol Select Speciality, Advance Home Health and Lincare for all their care for Mrs. Holtzclaw.
