Wanda V. Frazier Hammond, age 95 of Kingsport, was taken up to her Heavenly home during the early hours of Wednesday, July 20, 2016. Wanda was born to the late Worley Clinton Frazier and the late Essie Mann Frazier on November 20, 1920 in Scott County, VA. In September of 1939, Wanda married her best friend and love of her life, Mr. Charles M. Hammond Jr., and after 47 years of a beautiful life together and raising a family, he preceded her in death in September of 1987.
Wanda was a woman who lived her life for her family. She loved being a mother and she gave every ounce of herself in being the best wife and mother that she could be. She cherished her family in that she knew that they were a gift from God. Her creativeness could be seen in the quilts and afghans that she worked on diligently throughout her life. Wanda had a servant’s heart and if there was someone in need, she was always there willing to help them without question. Wanda knitted and crocheted many threads throughout her life, but the most important threads that she sewed are the threads of love and grace that she left for her family to cherish; and these threads will never fray or tear.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; her devoted husband, Charles M. Hammond Jr.; and two brothers, Edward Clinton Frazier and John Daniel Frazier. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Eddie Hammond and wife Kay; daughter, Linda Carol Hillman and husband J.C.; sister, Marion Jean Neal; three grandchildren; one great grandchild; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 25, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Brother David Dotson officiating. There will be a private interment on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Holston View Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the Salvation Army, located at 1409 E. Stone Dr. Suite F, Kingsport, TN 37660. 423-247-8154.
