
L. Camp Gilliam, D.Ed., passed away Friday, December 17, 2010 of natural causes at the age of 83. A longtime Kingsville, Texas resident, he graduated from Floresville High School and earned his Bachelors Degree from Southwestern University. He later earned a Masters Degree from SMU and a Doctorate of Education from North Texas State University. Dr. Gilliam retired from Texas A&I University where he taught for over 20 years. Dr. Gilliam was a member of NEA, TSTA, Phi Delta Kappa, and a lifelong Methodist.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Rogers Gilliam; sons, David J. Gilliam and wife Bobbi Kaye Jones, Mark Camp Gilliam and wife Suzanne Greene Gilliam; daughter, Karen Gilliam Duncan and husband William R. Duncan; grandson, Connor Duncan; granddaughters, Sarah Claire Gilliam, Taylor Nichole Duncan, Julia Elizabeth Gilliam, Elisabeth Dunson, Sarah Jones Howell, Rebekah Jones Olson; and foster brother, Emmett Lyons Whitsett Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellen Lamar Camp Gilliam and Charles T. Gilliam; sister, Mary Ellen Gilliam Blamey; brother, Claude Watts Gilliam; and foster parents, Nora Camp Whitsett and Emmett Lyons Whitsett.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church, Kingsville, with Rev. Bobbi Kaye Jones and Rev. Sheldon Johnson officiating.
