

Roy was born to Grady and Mary Ella Harden, February 7, 1923, in Waco, TX. He graduated from Rosebud High School in 1939 and shortly afterwards, the family relocated to Bishop, TX. He worked for the Celanese Chemical Corporation, Bishop Plant, and retired in January, 1983, after more than 40 years with the company. In his younger years Roy was an avid golfer and enjoyed many, many, rounds of golf with his friends. He also enjoyed playing dominoes (42 & 84) and card games, and loved family gatherings and reunions. He liked to keep in touch with his relatives, and took much pride in remembering the birth dates of all his family members, including cousins, aunts and uncles.
Roy is survived by his son, Roy Harden, Jr. and wife Judy Diane of Salado, TX; daughter Judy Ann Stevens and husband Gary of Austin, TX; three granddaughters; Jana (Jeff) Holst of Austin, TX, Nicole (Clayton) Ruffino of Pflugerville, TX and Lori (Brian) Long of Austin, TX; two great-grandsons, Chase Ruffino and Wesley Long, and three great-granddaughters; Kylie Ruffino, Kayla Holst and Blaike Long. He is also survived by two brothers, Olan Harden (Louise) of Pasadena, TX and J. W. Harden of Spring, TX, and three sisters, Mary Ruth Shafer of Bishop, TX, Melba Dean Brown (Bill) of Enumclaw, WA, and Carolyn Taylor of Bishop, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, La Vena Harden; brother Ray Harden; and great-grandson, Colin Holst.
Pallbearers will be Clayton Ruffino, Jeff Holst, Brian Long, Mike Taylor, Kevin Taylor and Jeff Taylor.
The family is very grateful to the Staff and residents of the Temple Garden Estates Assisted Living Facility and the Scott & White Hospice Group for the care provided to Roy. They are especially grateful to Ms. Nell Stewart for her gracious loving care and attention she provided him.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 29, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary and the funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, Bishop, with Rev. Clif Abshier officiating. Burial will follow in Bishop, TX at Restland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bishop Cemetery Association, PO Box 142, Bishop, TX 78343 or to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 311 East Fifth Street, Bishop, TX 78343.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd, Kingsville, TX.
