Dave was born in Biggar, SK on September 8, 1947 and was raised on the family farm near Leipzig, SK. He began his education in the small country school of Medina and later finished elementary and high school in Leipzig Notre Dame Convent. After high school he attended St. Thomas Business College in North Battleford.
Dave and Beatrice were married on May 23, 1970 and settled in Landis, SK. Dave worked as the office manager at the Landis Co-op and then later moved to the auditing department at the Federated Co-op in Saskatoon. He also worked as the office manager at the Melfort, Regina and Moosomin Co-op’s and then went onto own the SGI Agency in Kipling and “retired” as the owner of KNR courier. He then continued working as a bus driver and caretaker at the Kipling School. Dave made many friends and acquaintances throughout his careers and always had time for a friendly conversation about the weather, family, etc.
Dave was a true person of faith and a beloved member of St. Anne’s R.C. Church as well as St. Mary’s in Moosomin. He was well known for his musical abilities and played the organ at church for many years. He served on church committees, parish councils and was a long time Board member of the Kenosee Boys and Girls Camp, Mother Theresa Centre which was founded by Father David Banga. Dave was always willing to serve his community and family. He led Cub Scouts and assisted with Air Cadets in Moosomin. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Jaycees, the Lions Club and the Kipling Legion.
Dave’s true love was his wife Beatrice and he was deeply committed to his family. He enjoyed travels with Beatrice and his family to the east and west coast of Canada, Las Vegas, Mexico and casinos throughout the land. Dave and the family spent many summers at Kenosee Lake and enjoyed time at the cabin. He loved the time with his siblings and family, especially when they gathered for large family reunions and celebrations.
Dave and Beatrice had many close friends in the communities they lived in. They enjoyed playing cards, visiting and talking about family and of course the weather. He was a “weather aficionado” and could always tell a person about the upcoming forecast.
Dave truly enjoyed music, watching musicals and was a wonderful piano player. His favorite musical was “The Sound of Music” which he watched whenever it was on. He enjoyed going to Roughrider football games and especially loved attending the many activities that his children and grandchildren participated in.
Dave was known for his kindness and his friendly nature. Throughout the days before his passing, many members of the community expressed to his family their remembrance of a kind act or word that Dave had done for them.
Dave will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years Beatrice Schwebius (nee Hauck) and his children: Dean (Keri), Tami (Jerry), Janelle (Dallas) and Michael. His grandchildren: Tiara (Matt), Cole (Alexis), Hannah, Kaiden, Katie, Laine, Ayla, Ashlyn, David and Connor loved their Grandpa very much and will miss him dearly.
