Gerry was born on August 22, 1940 and spent his entire life in Kipling. He was deeply committed to his family and the community he loved. His numerous contributions to the community and the church made a positive impact at many levels. His legacy will be remembered and appreciated for years to come.
Gerry met the love of his life, Jill Marshall of Wawota, SK. They exchanged vows in 1962 and shared 58 wonderful years of marriage until Jill’s passing in 2021.
Gerry began his career in the 1960’s as the owner of Central Garage Esso and a bulk fuel dealership. During that time, he also served as a district manager for Imperial Oil. In the 1970’s, he and his brother Les started a successful farming operation, Gerhardt Farms, which operated for 28 years. Gerry later became a Chartered Financial Planner with Investors Group, serving clients in the community for 18 years.
Gerry was passionate in all his endeavours. He loved woodworking and produced several intricate model replicas of local historical buildings, which can be viewed at the Kipling Museum. He was instrumental in the development of the Kipling Golf Course and was a prime motivator for Canadian Foodgrains Bank initiatives in the local community, encouraging farmers to donate grain to help feed those in need around the world.
Gerry was truly one of a kind - a “mover and shaker” with a booming personality that lit up every room he entered. His famous words were “tell it as it is” and “honesty and integrity.”
Gerry is survived by his sons Scott Gerhardt and his spouse Michelle Gerhardt (Baun) of Saskatoon, SK and Robert (Bob) Gerhardt and his spouse Tammy Flanders of Calgary, AB; cherished granddaughter Shae Gerhardt of Saskatoon, SK and his twin sister Joan Balog (nee Gerhardt) and her husband William Balog of Kipling, SK.
He was predeceased by his parents Charlie and Carrie Gerhardt; his wife Jill Gerhardt (nee Marshall) and his brother and sister-in-law Les and Nora Gerhardt.
A special thanks to all the family and friends who made his final days special with their phone calls, visits and especially to his dear friend Elaine Young for her friendship and support over the past five years.
He touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed. ❤️
A private interment will take place in the Edenland Cemetery at a later date.
