To all who loved Hank Arthur, friends and family: Sadly, I must let you know Hank left us Sunday morning on May 27, 2018, peacefully in his sleep. Lucky were those of us who loved him, and were loved by him. I leave you with a message he would endorse, even though he didn't fully embrace this version of Dr. Who, played by Peter Capaldi: Be Kind.
What I would love for us all to remember, is how Hank always willfully chose joy and kindness, despite how much pain he was in or how his body was finding new and cruel ways to disappoint and fail him. He never put on a false facade or hid behind a phony smile. He could always 'flip the switch' inside himself, and find a way to make a kind compliment to a stranger, or to engage a child; his favorite thing was our trips to the Disney Parks, where he loved more than anything to watch the children and to great every little girl in princess dress with 'Hello, your majesty!' It takes incredible strength and courage to choose joy like that. Let's all remember Hank by choosing joy for ourselves.
