Lucy Icilda Bell, Born in Pleasant Springs, St. Andrew’s, Jamaica West Indies (WI), on November 22, 1930. She departed this life on Tuesday, December 20, 2016. Her education was completed in Jamaica, and were she married her loving husband and friend Henry Bell, whom she adoringly called “Henni” in 1959, sharing 57 wonderful years together. Before migrating to the USA in 1969, she worked as a Nanny with the Mockyen Family, and affectionately called “Lu Lu” by the children.
After arriving in the USA, she continued as a Nanny and then later began working within the health care field as a Professional Cook at Putnam Weaver Nursing Home, Greenwich CT. She was then employed with Olin Skis, and Connecticut Valley Hospital (CVH), both of Middletown Connecticut, and later retired to Kissimmee, Florida to enjoy her gardening passion and love for cooking. She was known for cooking Chinese food that made us all come home for dinner, along with half the neighborhood, and her scrumptious fried chicken, a staple at church events and gatherings.
She was pristine and orderly in everything she did, loved and enjoyed helping others, would give you the “shirt off her back” and fed everyone that stopped by to visit. Our house was the stop on the way to and from the school bus stop for neighborhood children, where she always had Baked Goods, Icee’s or Italian Ice, and had them all phone home to let their parents know where they were.
Lucy’s other areas of talent included crocheting, knitting, quilting, needlepoint, home decorating, singing and sewing outfits for her children and grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband Henry, 3 daughters, 1 step-daughter, 1 daughter predeceased. One sister Alberta Hunter, and 2 predeceased sisters, Jamaica, West Indies. 7 Grandchildren, 19 Great-Grandchildren, 6 Great-Great Grandchildren and a host of Nieces and Nephews. Countless relatives, friends and co-workers in the United States, Jamaica, Great Britain and Canada. For a Woman that did not drive, she sure got around; unless it was putting the car in reverse, and drove backwards. Thanks Mom for keeping us laughing.
The family of Lucy Icilda Bell wishes to express sincere appreciation and thanks to the many relatives and friends for their expressions of sympathy and love shown during our time of bereavement.
