Mary Catherine Podhorny

Mary has been reunited with her beloved husband, Oswald (“Ossie”) who predeceased her in 2009. Loving Mom and friend to her daughters, Jane Whalen (Oliver Thomas) and Jodie Whalen (Jamahl Gibson) and mother to James (Kathleen) Podhorny, John Podhorny (Cortney Pelger) and Sarah Podhorny. Proud Grandma of Hayley Brito and Amber and Andrew Podhorny. Dear sister of Tina (Glen), Beverley, Louie, Brenda (Tim), Margie (Rob), Sheila (Dave), David and Karen. Mary is also survived and forever rememberd by her brothers and sisters-in law and her many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins from Ontario, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. Mary was predeceased by her parents Louis and Jane Cheverie and her siblings, Francis, Darlene, Catherine and Kelly.

Mary was most recently employed by Wal-Mart Canada before enjoying an active retirement in Ontario and Florida. She was an avid card player and also enjoyed travelling, swimming, bingo, and most of all, Karaoke. Mary’s “take-charge” personality and fiery zest for life will forever be remembered by her dear friends at Cloverleaf Park in Brooksville, FL, the "Gang" back here in Ontario, and all who knew her.

Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. West, Kitchener on Sunday February 10th, 2013 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Funeral Service celebrating Mary’s life will take place on Monday February 11th, 2013 at 1pm in the chapel of the funeral home. A reception will follow at the Ratz-Bechtel Family Centre. Cremation and private family burial to take place at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of your choice and can be arranged by contacting the funeral home. Mary’s family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the ICU staff at the Brooksville Regional Hospital in Florida for the excellent and compassionate care Mary received.
