

Michael Olijnyk, dear father of Dr. Basil Olijnyk and his wife Olia of Waterloo, Mary Hussey and her husband Ray of Kitchener, and Ray Olijnyk and his wife Christine of Etobicoke; dear grandfather of Andrew (Emma), Peter (Kate), Mark (Caitlin), Alicia (Tim), Adam (Sabrina), Paul and Tanya; dear great-grandfather of Ellie, Zachary, Bree, Izzy, Chloe, and Liam. Michael will be remembered by his sister Marenka and family in Ukraine.
Predeceased by his loving wife Marta in May of 2003, his mother Maria, his father Vasyl, brothers Oleksa, Stephan, Zahary, Petro, Hrihorij, Fedko, Unofrey, Mikola, Bohdan, and infant sister Ksenia.
Michael was a dedicated member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Transfiguration in Kitchener, and actively participated in the Church Choir, various Church Committees, the Ukrainian Men's League, the Senior's Club, maintenance of the Church and Ukrainian Church Hall. After many years of working at the Lang Tannery on Madison Ave., Michael retired to enjoy his passion of gardening and restoration projects. Michael will be remembered for his enthusiasm, sense of humour, and dedication to his family, friends and the Ukrainian community.
A sincere thank you to the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre in Toronto, his home for the last 4 years, and thank you to Dr. Dominic Lehnert and nurses at St. Joseph's Hospital, Toronto for their compassionate care in his final weeks.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home and Chapel, 51 Benton at Church St., Kitchener (742-4481) on Thursday, May 5 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with Panakhyda at 7 p.m. Prayers will be offered on Friday, May 6 at 10 a.m. Transfer will then be made to the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Transfiguration for a Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m. Fr. Volodymyr Yanishevsky officiating. Reception to follow immediately in the Ukrainian Church Hall on Michael St. Transfer will be made at 2 p.m. to St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery, Oakville for interment.
