                                     SPECIAL MOMENTS
I sat down to write, like most people do, a brief memorial/tribute to Dad, thinking that I'd highlight a half dozen special moments we shared.
At times like this we always try to focus on those events that stand out.  The moments we learnt something new from Dad, or did our favourite things together,  or those times when we just had fun.   Jotting things down it was real easy to come up with six or seven things that stood out, then 9 or 10, 20 or 30!! 

Turns out, that Dad was not only sharing in things we did together, he was constantly mentoring and teaching life's lessons.  Usually in a way that I, and I'm sure my brothers didn't really get until years later when you would go to do something and some rules about that particular job crept into our minds.  Where did that knowledge come from?  How did we know that this was the right way to do something when it wasn't anything we went to school for?  Watching and helping Dad always meant learning, not always appreciated, but definitely useful somewhere along the line.

To say Dad taught us to grow, be better people, considerate of others and work hard seems like an obvious job for a parent.  To try to focus on a few special moments that are more important or stand out more than others seems daunting.  Which ones to choose? Which ones have more impact?
That's when it dawned on me, there is only one special moment……it started the first time Dad held me, and sadly it ended a week ago.  For me, it was a 59 year long special moment, one that ended suddenly, but will live forever in my heart.  

Dad, thanks for the lessons, the laughter, the guidance, the love.  Rest in peace, love you now and always.

Your father was a man of complete class.   Words cannot describe the gratitude I will always have for the thoughtfulness and compassion he showed my mother during her battle with cancer.  A gentle soul who will always be remembered.

Tim and Andrea.  We are so glad that both of you were able to spend a lot of time with Dick and to help him over the years.  He will be greatly missed especially at our family Christmas dinner table.  Mom & Dad
