Alice Faye (Rainey) Henderlight Davis, age 86, of Knoxville, entered her heavenly home on September 17, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of joy and compassion that touched the lives of everyone she encountered.
Born on October 23, 1937, in Norton, Virginia, to Roe Rainey Sr. and Florence Millsap Rainey, Alice Faye's family soon moved to Benham, Kentucky, where her father worked in the coal mines. There, she formed cherished memories and lifelong friendships alongside her sister, Jean, and younger brother, Roe Jr. Following the loss of their father in 1956, the Rainey family relocated to Dryden, Virginia, to be closer to her mother’s parents.
During a summer visit to Knoxville, Alice Faye met the love of her life, James Henderlight. After their marriage, they moved to Baltimore, Maryland, until the passing of her mother in 1967, at which time she took on the loving responsibility of raising her younger brother, and they returned to Knoxville. Alice Faye dedicated 28 years of service to Levi Strauss on Cherry Street before her retirement.
James built their home in South Knoxville on his family's property, where they shared many happy years together. After James’s passing in 1993, Alice Faye found love again with Bob Davis, whom she married in 2002. They enjoyed a loving partnership until his death in 2018.
Though she remained a Benham Tiger at heart, Alice Faye was an ardent supporter of the Tennessee Volunteers, always proudly wearing orange and white on game days and cheering on her beloved team, whether at Neyland Stadium or from the comfort of her home.
Alice Faye's vibrant spirit and generous heart were a beacon to all who knew her. She was always ready to care for and serve others, leaving an indelible mark on her family and the countless friends she made throughout her life.
A graveside service will be held to honor her life at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Woodlawn Cemetery, 4500 Woodlawn Pike, Knoxville, TN 37920. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 2:45 p.m.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sister Paula Jean, and nephew Eric Rainey. She is survived by her brother, Roe Rainey, Jr. (Melinda); niece, Kristen Brown (Andrew); and numerous beloved cousins and friends. Alice Faye will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
