Alliene was an avid golfer in the 1960s and 1970s at Beaver Brook Country Club and Bays Mountain Golf Course. She enjoyed flying across the southeast with Layton as he piloted single-engine planes and later found great happiness seeing the country in their RV. She grew up in Mount Olive Baptist Church and was later a dedicated member of New Prospect Presbyterian Church. In addition to her husband, Alliene was preceded in death by her brother, Randy Burleson, and sister and brother-in-law Carrie and Kenneth Cheatham; her parents; and her father- and mother-in-law, Richard and Effie Howell. She will be missed by her daughter and son and their families: Nancy and Steve Major of Lilburn, Ga., and Neville and Sherri Howell of Knoxville; her four grandsons and wives: Van and Laurie Major of Birmingham, Courtney and Lisa Major of Cumming, Ga.; Trey and Kinsey Howell of Spring Hill, Tenn.; and Brett and Olivia Howell of Seattle; and her five great-grandsons, Jackson, Gavin, Camden and Aidan Major and Cohen Wilburn. The family wishes to express much appreciation to the staff at Brookdale Homewood at Deane Hill for their expertise and loving care of dementia patients; to Dr. Michelle Brewer and Dr. Jack Lacey who are friends as well as excellent physicians and to Smoky Mountain Hospice for their care in the last days.
