Arden Duncan Rogers passed away on November 2nd, 2022 at the age of 93. Arden (known to many family and friends as Buddy) was born in West Palm Beach, FL on December 27, 1928 and was the 2nd of 4 siblings. He spent his childhood exploring and adventuring in the water with his siblings where he especially loved boating around Singer and Peanut Islands. He eventually graduated from Palm Beach High School and went on on to join the Army Air Force. During his time in the military, he was assigned to train airplane mechanics as part of a mobile training unit that traveled all over the country. After serving with the Army Air Force, he went on to Georgia Tech where he pursued a bachelor’s degree in engineering. After college, he relocated to Knoxville, TN to start a job at Robertshaw-Fulton Controls Company where he worked until retirement in 1991. Arden married Marjory Temple in 1964, to whom he was deeply devoted during their almost 58 years of marriage. They raised five children together.
Arden loved the water and spent as much time as he could at the lake, the local community pool, and on the ocean where he enjoyed boating, skiing, swimming, diving, and snorkeling. He loved outdoor activities like hiking and camping and tried his best to pass on these loves to his children and grandchildren. Every summer, the Rogers family would take a long car ride to Florida to visit Arden’s family and he always made sure this time was full of adventure and creating good memories. In his spare time he also enjoyed participating in several bowling leagues, playing chess, beekeeping, and working on projects around the house. After retirement, Arden and Marjory spent several months of the year at their condo in Florida where Arden was able to further enjoy and experience his love for the water. Arden cared selflessly for his family and spent his years quietly living the values of generosity, kindness, thoughtfulness, and service to others.
Arden is preceded in death by his wife (Marjory Temple Rogers), his parents (Arden and Rose Rogers), his sister (Alliean), his brothers (Adrian and Barry), his son-in-law (Robert Phelps), and his grandson (Thomas Phelps). He is survived by his five children, Belinda Dyer (David) of Alcoa, TN; Doug Rogers (Lori) of Kennewick, WA; David Beerman (Joyce) of Knoxville, TN; Evelyn Winther (Jerry) of Knoxville, TN; and Rosanne Phelps of Savannah, GA; as well as five grandchildren, multiple nieces and nephews, and two cats.
A service for family and friends will be held at Berry Highland West on November 14th at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Young Williams Animal Center. Donations can be made online at https://www.young-williams.org/support/ or by mail at 3201 Division Street Knoxville, TN 37919.
