Carolyn Johnson Ambrister

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Paxton Ambrister to whom she shared 60 wonderful years together; parents, Howard James Johnson and Elizabeth Carter Johnson.

Born in Knoxville on November 30th,1930, Carolyn attended Old Knox High School. She graduated from The University of Tennessee with a degree in Education and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority.

Carolyn was a longtime and active member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church. She served as a chairman of the Dogwood Arts Festival, Holston Hills Community Club, Ossoli Circle, Nativity Pageant and Alpha chapter of King's Daughters. She was also a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.

Carolyn was a loyal and devoted wife, mother, grandparent and friend. She met monthly with longtime friends for dinner club for many years. She also enjoyed her bridge club, weekends on Norris Lake, cheering on the Vols, Sunday brunches at Holston Hills and traveling.

She is survived by two children, Frank Howard (Pam) Ambrister, Carolyn Ambrister Graves; grandchildren: Troy (Caty) Graves, Christina (Blake) Edwards, Tristan Ambrister, Carter (Meredith) Ambrister; and special caregiver, Donna Barr.

She is blessed to get to know and be a part of her seven great grandchildren: Ellie Grace, Everly and Baylor Edwards, Paxton, Cate and Lilly Graves, and Cillian Ambrister, who lovingly called her Nanny.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Gentiva Hospice and the wonderful caring staff at Deane Hill Assisted Living Facility.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920. Family and friends will gather at 10:45 AM for an 11:00 AM graveside service on Monday, March 10, 2025 at Sherwood Cemetery, Dr. Sean White officiating.
