Cassandra “Cassie” Lynne Barnes, a beloved child of God, cherished daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, aunt, and friend, peacefully entered the presence of the Lord on Monday, June 23, 2025. She was 33 years old. Her passing followed a long and courageous journey with health challenges stemming from an accident in 2007. She was preceded in death by both of her grandfathers, paternal grandmother, both paternal aunts and their spouses. She will continue to be loved and cherished by her parents, sister, nephews, maternal grandmother, and a multitude of family and friends.
Cassie received the sacraments of baptism and confirmation at her home church. While attending church regularly, she sometimes helped as Acolyte, Nursery Assistant, Usher and started to Lector. She was learning to express her faith more deeply through prayer. She participated with others in youth group, feeding the hungry and other church activities.
From an early age, Cassie exhibited a strong and independent spirit. She embraced life with a unique perspective, always choosing to do things in her own time and in her own thoughtful, creative way. Cassie tried different sports but they didn’t take hold. She did love animals (especially horses), the water (swimming), drawing, and writing/storytelling. As with all of us, she was not perfect. A few descriptors that she liked to use about herself were: that she was creative, courageous and loving; along with the other spectrum of: annoying, weird, and never able to focus.
For the past 18 years, Cassie faced the profound challenges of life as a non-verbal quadriplegic. Though she could not speak, she found meaningful ways to express herself—conveying appreciation, trust, mischief, humor, joy, love, and even moments of frustration or defiance. Her spirit found a voice beyond words, and those who knew her came to understand the depth of her presence and emotions.
You left a lasting mark on every heart you met. Rest in God’s peace, sweet girl – we will miss you always.
