Clyde Franklin Sheppard born to Alvin and Frances Sheppard on January 25, 1935, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus while surrounded by those he loved most on December 14, 2022. Clyde attended Central High School until he joined the Army at the age of Seventeen. He met and married the love of his life, Jewell, in 1956. He worked for the United States Post Office for Forty years. One of Clyde’s proudest moments was being recognized as United States Postman of the Year. Clyde loved the Vols and was always active in sports, enjoying Softball, Bowling, and Golf. Clyde learned to play golf on the greens of Holston Hills, becoming enthusiastic about the sport. He loved a good round of Golf or Tournament with his friends. Clyde played Golf as often and hard as he could, until Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s took their toll on him physically. Clyde loved spending Summers at Daytona Beach with the entire family. After long days at the Beach, he would gather all the kids (his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews) together to go for Ice Cream at a local spot. The owner always marveled over how “good and young” Clyde and Jewell looked to have so many children. That always gave Clyde a good chuckle. Clyde was a lifelong member of Lonsdale United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by his parents, daughters Frankie and Angie, granddaughter, Autumne and four brothers. Survived by his grandsons: Gary (Samantha) Cummings; Billy (Mary Rose) Powell; and Brandon Powell, granddaughters: Brittney (Chris) Rudd and Brandy (Ebony) Hall, sixteen great-grandchildren and one sister. Clyde was most passionate about his family. He loved without limits or conditions. Those lucky enough to know him knew kindness, laughter, and a genuine soul. Clyde lived a Blessed life! We ask that you hug your loved ones a little longer. Appreciate the things in life that truly matter. Spend time with your family or friends over a cup of coffee and breathe in that precious moment. Life is short and time is fleeting!
