

David Eli Cardwell, Jr. - age 91, went home to be with his Lord and his wife on November 2, 2016. Founding member of Memorial Wesleyan Church of Knoxville. He was a current member of West View Community Church. U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, served in European Theater. Retired from Martin Marietta, K-25 Plant in Oak Ridge after 31 years of service. Preceded in death by wife of 51 years, Lila Perkey Cardwell; infant daughter, Donna Anita Cardwell; parents, David and Ida Cardwell; sisters, Della Harmon, Florena Cardwell, Reva Cardwell, Lucille McCarter and Beatrice French Johnson; brothers, Reford Cardwell (infant) and Edgar Cardwell. Survived by children, Connie Cardwell Covington and husband Jim, Gary Cardwell, and Ken Cardwell and wife Crystal all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Wesley Covington and wife Brandi, Jennifer Covington Blye and husband Azmar, Ashlee Cardwell Hawkins and husband Josh, Lacy Cardwell Hudson and husband Cody, Corey Cardwell and Ellen Cardwell; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Kolson and Kynlee Covington, Braxton Blye, Maxwell Hudson and Josephine Hawkins; and brother, Carl Cardwell and wife Roberta of Winston-Salem, NC; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Weaver Funeral Home, Western Avenue with the funeral service to follow at 4:00 pm. Graveside service for Mr. Cardwell will be held Monday at 10:00 am at Edgewood Cemetery on Gallaher View Road.
