I was so sorry to hear of David's death. While I never worked in the same unit or squad with David, he was always pleasant and respectful when our paths would cross while on the job. My prayers and thoughts are with the family.

As a journalist roaming the hallways of the third floor at the Knoxville Police Department - before reporters were banned from the floor that housed detectives - I always made time to stop and speak with David. He had that grandfatherly manner to him that worked well to put suspects and victims at ease. David was a sharp cop who never took himself too seriously. He solved a lot of crimes and arrested a lot of bad guys, all the while realizing the legal system would put the predators back on the streets. Most of the stories David shared involved great work by other officers; he was too humble to talk about his own cases, even when those capers were worthy of the front-page of the newspaper. It was an honor to know you, David. You did the badge proud. Thank you for your many sacrifices to your community and law enforcement. You made both better.

David was the best friend I ever had for over 50 years. He was more like a brother to me. We worked closely together at KPD for about 30 years. David loved working with juveniles and was the liaison between KPD and Juvenile Court. He helped a lot of young people turn their lives around and become responsible adults. Later we worked together as abuse investigators for the State of Tennessee in the developmental disabilities field. David was a quality person who loved helping others. It was an honor to call him my friend. We spent hundreds of days on the golf courses of East Tennessee. David loved his family dearly. He and Becky had a wonderful life together. Though we lived over 600 miles apart after he moved to Florida the friendship never weakened. He was my best friend for all those years and I will him terribly. My prayers are with his loving family at this very sad time. God bless you and keep you close.

David so loved his family, especially his wife. He spoke of them with such reverence. I worked with him for about 5 years with the state and he was so loyal to his positions concerning his friends, his family, Christ, and The Vols. He was one of the most faithful and will be sorely missed. Look forward to seeing him again in heaven.

I had the pleasure of knowing David from the 1980s at KPD. He always treated me with respect and friendship. I'm glad I had the opportunity to know him.
