Dustin struggled with addiction and mental health issues, but he was so much more than that. We refuse to let it define him. He could relate to a book by Joyce Meyer, titled “Battlefield of the Mind” and read it through several times. He shared Romans 7:15 to his Mom often; “....for what I would, that I do I not; but what I hate, that do I!”. Dustin struggled. When Dustin was in a dark, troublesome place, where there was no escape, Mom reminded him of Philippians 4:8 and Psalm 23, saying “Bud, think of yourself resting in those cool, tender grasses by a stream somewhere, and let God love on you there.”
Dusty, the true Dusty, loved his family and wanted to be loved. He gave the best hugs. He could have been a stand up comedian! He knew every word Ace Ventura spoke, he laughed while quoting lines from Dumb and Dumber, and he loved Forrest Gump! He could bust a move and was really good at doing “The Worm”. As a child, he was a great soccer player, He rode his dirt bike wide open and he loved playing with his skim board at the beach.
Dustin was loved and ended his calls home with “Tell the ladies at church thank you for the cards! I love you, Mom; Tell Art, I love him.”
If you struggle as Dusty did, please reach out for help. Jesus left His word, the Bible as a manual for life. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice for all our sins, big, little...All our sins. No one is ever too far gone for Jesus to reach. He is a Wonderful Savior, a Healer and a Comforter. Lean into Jesus. The world may turn you away, but Jesus loves you unconditionally.
The family will receive friends beginning at 2 pm, with a service at 3 pm to celebrate Dusty on October 18, 2025 at New Hope Baptist Church, 605 Dotson Memorial Road, Maryville, TN 37801; Pastor Mike Parker officiating.
