Frances Ann Braun Irwin

Irwin, Frances Ann Braun-age 89, of Knoxville, died March 8, 2013 following a brief illness. Mrs. Irwin was born May 18, 1923 in Baltimore, Maryland and served in the United States Army during World War II. She met Broughton Irwin while both were serving in the Army and they were married at Ft. Moultrie, South Carolina on August 27, 1945. They returned to his home in Knoxville and she was a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church of Knoxville. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and will be greatly missed. She is survived by daughters Judy Irwin of Knoxville and Joyce Irwin Petroff of Huntsville, Tennessee; son-in-law Ernest A. Petroff; two grandsons, Kevin Ernest Petroff of Houston, Texas and Jeffrey Broughton Petroff and wife Annemarie, great-grandson Behrett Broughton Thomas Petroff and great-granddaughter Annderson Elizabeth Petroff of Wilmington, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Broughton S. Irwin, and her parents, Adam and Elizabeth Grosser Braun, sisters Ethel, Catherine, and brother John. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 11, 2013 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM with service following at Berry Funeral Home 3704 Chapman Highway, Knoxville. Interment will be Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, gifts of remembrance may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital of Memphis.
