Gary Wayne P'Simer

On August 12, 2025, Gary W. P'Simer (79) went home to be with Jesus, his faith becoming sight. Gary was born in Clay County, West Virginia to Orville and Hazel P'Simer and was the ninth of ten children. Around the age of six his family moved to Knoxville where he attended school and later joined the U.S. Navy.

After the Navy he returned to Knoxville, married Sue Willard and they had three boys, Eric, Todd, and Darren.

In September 1991, he married Karla Burnette and they welcomed his fourth son, Sam in September 1993.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents. Orville and Hazel P'Simer; siblings, Dolly Kobisk, Doris Ann Keener, John P'Simer, Linda McNew, and Martha Roberts.

He is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Karla; his children, Eric (Christy) P'Simer, Todd P'Simer, Darren P'Simer, and Sam (Rebecca) P'Simer; his grandchildren, Tyler P'Simer, Logan (Alex) P'Simer, Jordan (Jeremiah) Funkhouser, Jaiden and Kaylie P'Simer, Liam and Lucy P'Simer; his brothers and sisters, Bill (Catherine) P'Simer, Dana (Martha) P'Simer, Janice (Jim) Pybas and Nancy (Skip) Allen; and many dear nieces and nephews.

Gary was not just a painter, by trade, he was also a craftsman. He loved to fish, follow sports (especially UT basketball and football!), play board games (he threw a mean set of dice!), and spend time with his family. He was quiet, funny, had a mischievous grin, a lover of ice cream, and often fell asleep on the couch. Most of all he was a follower of Jesus and a child of God.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life and legacy of Gary at McCarty-Evergreen Funeral Home, 7426 Asheville Highway, Knoxville, TN 37924, on Saturday, August 16, 2025, with a visitation from 11:00am to 12:30pm and a memorial service to follow at 12:30pm.

Gary will be deeply missed by his family an friends until we are reunited in heaven. The impact of his life, and love that he shared are like ripples that emanate from pebbles cast into the water.
