
Potts, George Wharton “Smokey”, age 95, of South Knoxville, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, August 28, 2013. He was a member of Lake Forest Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon. He retired from L&N-CSX Railroad. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a 40+ year member of South Knoxville Optimist Club, a 32 degree mason having received his 50 year pin, serving as treasurer at the Charles McKinney Lodge. Smokey served 10+ years at the South Knoxville Fish Pantry where he was known as the Greeter. Preceded in death by parents, Howard Hathaway and Catherine Isabella Clark Potts; wife, Margaret Wood Potts; and daughter, Gail Potts Reedy. Survived by daughter, Deborah Potts, of Knoxville; son, Richard Clark Potts, of Savanah, GA; granddaughter, Aubrey Potts, of Jacksonville, FL; grandson, Devon Potts, of Savanah, GA; beloved dog, Tipper; grand dog, Shelby; many fond nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Service will be on Saturday, August 31, 2013, 2:00pm at Lake Forest Presbyterian Church with Rev. Buddy Sexton officiating. Visitation will be from 12noon-2pm prior to the service. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery with Military Honors. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Dean Mire and staff for their compassionate care.
