

KNOXVILLE - George Levator Whaley, surrounded by the love of his family, went to be with the Lord on February 12, 2025. He was born in Knoxville, TN on August 7, 1942. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1961 where he met and married the love of his life, Carolyn Jane Herrell. They were married almost 63 years and were true partners and soul mates in this life. He started his career in food service with Blue Circle, then at KFC as area and district manager and later at Home Depot where he retired in 2008. George loved to be with family, enjoyed church activities as he was a loyal member of Walridge Baptist Church many years. His pastor and church family were very important to him. Among his other activities were working in the yard, fishing, and antique cars. He was an avid Vols football fan and had a contagious laugh and hearty smile.
Preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Rebin Whaley; sister, Judy Bowers. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Jane; daughter, Teri Whaley Holmberg, and husband Mike; granddaughters, Julia, and Emily Holmberg; son, Randy and wife Penelope, grandchildren, Amber and Keaton Lester, Jonah and Valerie Whaley and great grandson, Deacon; dear sister, Joanne and his faithful dog, Bella. George and his family would like to thank everyone who prayed for him, supported him, cared for him, and loved him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Walridge Baptist Church, Smoky Mountain Hospice or Belly Rub Basset Rescue. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11am-1pm at Walridge Baptist Church, 3020 Walridge Rd. Knoxville, TN 37921 with service to follow at 1pm. Pastor Toby Webber officiating.
