He enjoyed his time working at Target, Turkey Creek, Knoxville. James enjoyed hiking in the Smoky Mountains, yard work, watching birds and reading.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Gilbert.
James is survived by wife, Lewann Gilbert; son, Michael Gilbert; mother, Lois Littlepage; step-father, Bert Littlepage; sisters: Linda (Jerry) Bailey, Cathy Melton, Tammy Barker, Susie Melton, Melissa Messick, Lisa Melton, Patty (Jerry) Adams; brothers: Billy (Jenny) Melton, Kenny (Amy) Melton; nieces and nephew
