There is no way for me to overstate the positive influence Dr. Bradley had on me during my three semesters spent in her classroom. Dr. Bradley had a very special way of examining and explaining the fragility of life to me and others. She regularly made me feel at ease with my mother's cancer diagnosis by teaching me to embrace the life's fragile nature by also recognizing and admiring all of the small things that make our lives worth living.

Beth was a dear colleague, a friend and a sister. I was diagnosed with breast cancer six months after her!  We talked a lot about our fight and we understood each other. We found comfort in our common experience. I spent a full weekend with Beth in Nashville at a conference. We shared the ride and the hotel room. We became even closer after that trip.  We had such a good time at the Indian restaurant in downtown Nashville. The food was so good that she took her husband there! I enjoyed her conversations and her friendship . I will miss her, but carry her spirit with me in my backpacking trips. She loved nature and especially flowers like me! She will not be forgotten. 

I was one of Dr. Bradley’s German students. I decided to take the language as a foreign language requirement, with no previous experience in German. I remember the first day of class being so nerve-wracking because I was taking a chance on something new. Dr. Bradley made me feel welcome and I left the class so excited to learn more. I had her for the next two years, and we became great friends. She’d personally email me recipes that she and I would talk about in class and last year, she wrote a recommendation on my behalf for an internship at the Tennessee State Capitol. I got the internship and she reached out to me over the semester to check in. I will always remember her gentle spirit and her patience with students as we learned German. I will be forever grateful for her eternal impact on my experience at UT and my life. She loved talking about her family and loved ones in class, and you all are in my thoughts and prayers. 

Beth is a mentor I won't ever forget.  She was resilient, strong,  and unapologetically herself. May she rest peacefully.

To say I am heartbroken would be an absolute understatement. Dr. Bradley took me under her wing when I transferred to UT and took her German 111 course. She inspired my love for German. If it was not for her influence, I would have most likely given up and dropped out. I will always remember you laughing at my crazy stories and is talking about our cats. I will always I forever treasure the 2020 calendar of your cats you gave me. One day she told me that I needed to pursue writing one day because of my love for telling stories. I promise you Dr. Bradley I will write that book for you one day. You meant and still mean the world to me. Your memory is a blessing to me and to all who had the privilege of knowing you. My daughter had Dr. Bradley as an undergraduate professor. She spoke often of how much she loved her as both a professor and a person. I’m so very sorry.

I was absolutely heartbroken to hear of Beth's passing. She was one of the most influential teachers in my life, and helped take my passing interest in German as a foreign language requirement and galvanize it into a passion to pursue a Masters degree and move to Germany with my wife. 

Chris, spending time with you both two years ago in Ludwigsburg was a profound full-circle moment in my life, and only furthered my admiration, appreciation, and respect for her. 

She was a rare soul who seemed to live as a teacher, not just work as one. My heart goes out to all those who loved her, and to the legions of students like myself who count themselves thankful to have learned from her.

I am so sorry for your loss, and my thoughts are with you in this difficult time. It was a great joy to get to know Beth as a colleague and friend; her passion for teaching German was immense and her enthusiasm touched the lives of generations of students in so many positive ways. Over the years, I heard many students rave about how much fun it was to have Beth as a teacher and mentor, and they also loved her for organizing cultural events with the help of (and for) the German Club. Beth deeply cared about her students, and I am sure that the many young minds she touched will cherish these memories for the rest of their lives. 
I will miss Beth, her passion, her humor, the conversations that took us from talking about Stuttgart, David Bowie, gingerbread houses, cats, textbooks, films, flowers and other casual things to also much deeper personal exchanges. I share your grief and will always cherish these fond memories of Beth.

I can’t find the words to say how sorry I am, and how much Beth will be missed…Beth did a lot for the department and MFLL NTTF Association!

Beth Bradley was sturdy, stalwart, sensible, engaged, thoughtful, humane and competent. These qualities and more make her passing at such a young age inexplicable and devastating. I was proud to have had a hand in starting her out on a career path. But it was Beth who drew on her virtues to enrich her students, colleagues, friends and family in a life of achievement and worth cut tragically short. I honor her life, share the sadness of loss with others and offer my profound condolences to Chris and her family as we mourn her passing.

Beth was a colleague of mine at UT. I am so saddened to hear of her passing and my heart goes out to her loved ones. I will always remember her intelligence, beauty and strength of character. As the president of the Lecturer's Association, she worked tirelessly and  courageously for equity. She is dearly missed!


I met Dr. Bradley in German Club at UTK and I got to know her pretty well through my involvement with the club. I will always remember the time we shared in and outside of the club, planning events, chatting, and everything in between. Some of my favorites are the long hours spent in the International House kitchen baking cookies and cakes; the I-House staff is trying to run us out because they want to close, while we’re all frantically trying to think of the closest place to buy eggs/butter/milk/whatever we ran out of.

I’m from Morristown, too, and I was always surprised by our mutual friends. Notably: she and my high school German teacher were grad school classmates, and at one time she was good friends with my childhood best friend’s parents. What a small world.

Even after I graduated, she would still check up on me and chat, and when things were looking bad here (I currently live in China), she reached out to me to make sure I was safe. She really cared about us, her students and German Club members, and she will be missed greatly. My deepest condolences and love to you all.

I am so sorry to hear of Beth's passing. I knew her as as beautiful, kind, and smart student at  Graded school in Brasil. She was also a terrific cheerleader! She was in the class ahead of mine; I got to know her much better when we reconnected in the last decade. Beth was always so supportive and was especially encouraging of my recent return to graduate school. My thoughts are with you during this time. 

Beth and I were cheerleaders together at Graded High School in Sao Paolo, Brasil. I have such fond memories of the times we were all together getting ready to cheer.  I am so very saddened by this news. She left us far too young.  Sending warm hugs and prayers to all of you.  ❤

I met Beth many years ago, we both taught in the same classroom. Because, she had lived in a small town in the border with Canada and I had lived in Canada for many years we felt some connection. I was very sorry when I learned she retired due to her illness and I am very sad for her passing. I will remember her fondly.  My deepest condolences to her husband Chris and her family.

We will always be your “Graded”family. Those ex pats who went to highschool with you in Brasil. The awkward memories, laughs, tears, and joys of succeeding. A more lovely, sweet, person you could not find. Dances, cheerleading with your friends, the long bus rides to our homes all lent to conversations that floated with ease. I was so glad to have the chance to catch up again. We miss you yesterday. Chris, all our abraços we could possibly give. We are all so incredibly sorry.

I’m so sad to hear about the passing of Beth.  She was a wonderful person to work with while she served as president and I was secretary of the NTTFA.   She was inspiring, a leader and was not intimidated by the challenges we faced during our time as officers.   I first got to meet Beth at a faculty meeting.  She sat beside me, her beautiful eyes looking at me, her gentle smile drew me in to say hello.   We immediately bonded.  We talked about gardening,  cats and among other things.   She was an amazing person to be around.   I am blessed that I got to meet her.  Every minuscule time that this universe gave me to spend with her was a true blessing.   Beth,  you will be forever remembered.   Chris and family,  I hope you find confort in each other.  My heart is with you at this moment.

What an honor and privilege to have known you. When you talked about the time you lived in Brazil, your eyes lit up! Especially when you mentioned "A Cor do Som", your favorite Brazilian band.  I will listen to them today in your memory. It's comforting to know that you were very happy in my country, and that Brazil will be a part of you forever. Rest in peace, dear friend! My deepest sympathies go out to your family. May God give them the peace that they seek.

I met Dr. Bradley my freshman year at UTK in the German Club back in fall of 2016, and I remember feeling immediately welcomed by  the community she created with in the club.  Every club meeting was filled with hilarious, sarcastic stories from Dr. Bradley and small things like chocolates and gifts she would bring us for no other reason than her kindness and genuine desire to share German culture. I will always treasure the memories I have with Dr. Bradley as we stayed for hours in the International House baking, designed our booth at the Culture Festival, talked about the latest adventures of our cats, and annually decorated our gingerbread houses while sharing cups of hot chocolate and cider. This picture was taken back in 2018 during the Culture Festival as her, Karl, Jacob, and I dressed up in traditional Bavarian clothes; we shared such heartfelt laughter that day, and I will truly never forget it. Dr. Bradley was so much more than a professor to me: she was my friend. Her memory will continue to live on in the myriad of students' lives that she positively influenced.

I am very saddened by this news. I am sorry that I have never had the chance to meet you, but I am very glad that I have met Beth in 2011 when I started working at UT. Since then, I have seen in her as an amazing soul with a great heart. She was a kind and caring colleague to me! How unfair that she had to suffer so much!

Beth was such a wonderful friend and colleague!  She devoted herself to her students and colleagues at the University of Tennessee. I miss her so much. 

I met Beth in the early 2000s when I was a graduate student at UTK and have very fond memories of her. She was a wonderful, very experienced, and dedicated instructor of German, and I very much enjoyed working with her and learning from her as a graduate teaching assistant. My heartfelt condolences to her entire family. I am keeping her, her husband, Chris, and her family in my thoughts and prayers.
